Hello future Hair & Beauty students of Distinction salons.

During the first term of your course with us, you will be looking at completing a short course in Contact Dermatitis. This is a well-known condition within the Hair and Beauty industry and something that all therapists and stylist should be aware of.

During this short course you will be looking at what Dermatitis is, the causes of it and symptoms and how to protect yourself from this.

Depending on your chosen course, your teacher may be either Emily for Beauty or Gemma for Hair and will happily guide you through this course. Your instructors are Carrie and Natalie and will be there in your lessons to support you throughout completing your aims.

Use the links below to discover a bit more about what Dermatitis is.

During your course of either Beauty or hair, you will be required to wear gloves to protect your skin. This is known as a form of PPE, or Personal Protective Equipment.

Task 1

Research pictures about removing gloves safely when using these to protect your skin.

Could you then show someone how to remove gloves after researching this? You could draw a poster to show the actions of this and then have a go yourself.

How to wash your hands correctly. Watch this short video!

Now using all the information that you have seen, could you create a colourful and informative poster to show:

  • What Contact Dermatitis is?
  • What it looks like?
  • The difference between Irritant and Allergic Dermatitis.
  • How to wash and dry your hands correctly.
  • What else could you do to protect your skin?
