We thought you might find this information sheet useful given the current situation. The following links and suggestions will provide you with content that is relatable and relevant to the Lang Lit Course you have shown an interest in attending next year. Wider reading, indeed, wider engagement of any kind, with Language and Literature will always be of use and will help you in your preparations for the course.

1. Digital Theatre Plus a free website showing full length plays from playwrights including Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, Ibsen as well as contemporary playwrights.
2. Free Audio Books for all ages including Jane Eyre, The Call of the Wild, Brave New World and many others
3. Ted Talks – language there are dozens of excellent lectures and talks on language here, including: Why language is humanity’s greatest invention; How language shapes the way we think; Txtng is killing language. JK!!! And many more…
4. The National Theatre Free this link will take you to what’s on offer at the World famous National Theatre in London. Currently running is ‘One Man, Two Guvnors’ starring James Corden
5. Noam Chomsky on Language this link leads to several others in which Noam Chomsky – linguist, philosopher, social critic and political activist, explores different aspects of language and how we use it
6. The Royal Court Theatre this site only has one production available at present, but it is a powerful one. Starring Stephen Rae, Cyprus Avenue tells the story of a middle-aged Irishman suffering mental health issues. The play is sometimes funny, sometimes tragic and often shocking. More productions might be added as time passes.
7. Netflix films based on books For those of you with access to Netflix or Amazon there are plenty of films adapted from novels – this link shows just what’s available on Netflix but a similar search for Amazon, Now TV and so on, will also provide you with options.
8. BBC Sounds App for your mobile phone Aside from the music stations there are all kinds of categories on this app including links to Audiobooks, Arts, Culture and Media, Drama, Documentaries, Podcasts and many more.
9. A quick search on YouTube will also have clips and talks on literature, writers, books and language including excerpts from films of plays including ‘Cat On a Hot Tin Roof’ and ‘The Glass Menagerie’ both of which were written by Tennessee Williams author of a Streetcar Named Desire
10. The Louvre – Paris you will be reading and working from the Paris Anthology during the course and so, to finish, and to give you a little taste of Paris, and French culture, here is a virtual tour of Paris’ most famous museum.
